CBP agents arrest 58 undocumented immigrants, seize marijuana

U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents at the Weldon Station Border Patrol arrested 58 undocumented immigrants on Friday, and seized approximately 1,225 pounds of marijuana.

Out of the 58 arrested, two had allegedly illegally re-entered the county while hauling 218 pounds of marijuana. Both of the suspects had previously been deported and were deemed in violation of their supervised release. The two men are in the process of being transported back to prison to complete their sentences.

In a separate incident, three men were discovered hiding in the back of a vehicle as it attempted to pass through a vehicle on Interstate 8. Two of the suspects were Mexican nationals, while the third was from El Salvador. The driver of the vehicle, a U.S. citizen, will be prosecuted for felony alien smuggling.

The largest drug seizure came from the discovery of 21 men smuggling approximately 843 pounds of marijuana. Fourteen of the smugglers were Mexican, four were from Honduras, two were from El Salvador and one was from Guatemala.

Agents also discovered approximately 164 pounds of marijuana abandoned in the desert on the same day. All drug were seized and the individuals arrested will be submitted for prosecution.
