McCaul announces new Homeland Security Committee subcommittee leadership

House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Michael McCaul (R-TX) announced on Tuesday that Rep. Martha McSally (R-AZ) has been named chairman of the Border and Maritime Subcommittee, while Rep. Dan Donovan (R-NY) will become the chairman of the Emergency Preparedness, Response and Communications Subcommittee.

“I am pleased to announce Martha as the new Border and Maritime Subcommittee chairman,” McCaul said. “She will receive the position from Rep. Candice Miller who has served as the subcommittee chairman since 2010 and is retiring at the end of this Congress. Martha’s leadership as the Emergency Preparedness, Response, and Communications Subcommittee chairman, her experience on the Border and Maritime Subcommittee, and her firsthand experience on the border make her a natural fit to succeed in this vital role. I have full confidence in Martha’s leadership abilities and I look forward to working closely with her as she inherits the gavel to this important subcommittee.

“I am pleased to announce Dan as the new Emergency Preparedness, Response, and Communications Subcommittee chairman. Dan has shown great leadership on the Homeland Security Committee since being elected to Congress less than a year ago. He will continue to draw on his experience as a former district attorney by conducting rigorous oversight of DHS and focusing on the posing threats our nation faces. I am confident Dan will continue to serve the committee with distinction as he begins his new role.”

McCaul said that Rep. Candice Miller (R-MI) will continue on as vice chairman of the full committee.

“As Candice hands over her gavel today, we reflect on her eight years as a leader on the Homeland Security Committee.” Chairman McCaul said. “During her time, she has championed numerous key homeland security bills, led delegations to see firsthand the challenging issues affecting homeland security, and has steadfastly carried out the committee’s mission to provide efficient and rigorous oversight of the Department of Homeland Security to ensure it’s capable of effectively protecting America. Understanding the critical role the Border and Maritime Subcommittee plays in our nation’s defenses, Candice will continue providing important guidance to Rep. McSally while also remaining vice chair of the full committee.”
