CBP seizes more than $2 million in narcotics

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Agency announced on Monday that its Office of Field Operations (OFO) at the Hidalgo and Anzalduas International Bridges had seized $2,350,000 worth of cocaine and methamphetamine.

The seizures came from two unrelated incidents and led to the arrests of three McAllen, Texas, residents in connection with the failed drug smuggling attempts.

“These two significant interceptions of hard narcotics at two of our border crossings are indicative of the resiliency of our officers and their tireless efforts to prevent harmful drugs from entering our country,” Efrain Solis, Jr., port director at the Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Ports of Entry, said.

The first seizure occurred on Saturday when CBP officers flagged a silver BMW SUV traveling from Mexico for examination. Officers discovered 22 packages containing a total of approximately 60 pounds of cocaine hidden within the SUV, valued at approximately $460,000.

The second seizure came on Sunday at the Anzalduas International Bridge when a blue Honda Ridgeline truck was flagged for examination. Officers discovered 41 packages containing approximately 95 pounds of methamphetamine in the truck valued at approximately $1,890,000 on the street.

CBP seized both vehicles and the narcotics that were concealed within them. All three suspects were released to the custody of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents for further investigation.
