IAFCF selects 10 recipients for hazmat scholarships

The International Association of Fire Chiefs Foundation (IAFCF) selected 10 first responders and safety officers on Friday for the 2016 Hazmat Conference Scholarship Awards.

The scholarships, made possible by a grant from Emergent BioSolutions, Inc., provides each recipient with full conference registration and a stipend to attend the International Hazardous Materials Response Teams Conference.

“The foundation congratulates each of the recipients and thanks the many responders who applied,” Tony Campisi, president of the IAFC Foundation, said. “We are pleased to be able to award these scholarships and hope to be able to grant more in the future. We also thank Emergent BioSolutions for making these scholarships possible and look forward to partnering with them again.”

Recipients of the awards include Patricia Binion, lieutenant of the King County (WA) Fire District; Timothy Carson, safety officer for the Brighton (NY) Volunteer Fire Company; Joseph Craig, lieutenant for the Conroe (TX) Fire Department; Derek Hirons, firefighter/paramedic for the town of Holden (MA) Fire Department; Corey Johnson, firefighter/paramedic for the Williston (ND) Fire Department; Matthew Miller, engineer for the Ruckersville (VA) Volunteer Fire Department; Kregg Phillips, lieutenant for the Austin (TX) Fire Department; Rudy Ruiz, deputy fire chief for the Perrysburg (OH) Fire Department; Mac Thomas, captain f (WA) Fire/Rescue Department.
