DHS announces grant allocations for FY2016

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) allocated $275 million on Wednesday for six FY2016 DHS competitive preparedness and grant programs to support state, local, tribal and territorial partners.

The grant program funds come in addition to the more than $1.3 billion in non-competitive grant funding already allocated to assist in local preparedness efforts. DHS has awarded more than $47 billion to these partners since 2002 with a goal of strengthening the nation’s ability to protect against, mitigate, respond to and recover from terrorist attacks.

“In an ever-changing threat environment, our homeland security grants demonstrate the Department’s continued commitment to strengthening the nation’s preparedness and ability to respond to a wide variety of emergencies,” DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson said. “These 2016 homeland security grant allocations will support our partners at all levels of government and the private sector, ensuring we remain vigilant and keep the homeland secure.”

Programs that will receive funding include $100 million for the Port Security Grant Program, $87 million for the Transit Security Grant Program, $55 million for Operation Stonegarden, $20 million for the Nonprofit Security Grant Program, $10 million for the Tribal Homeland Security Grant Program, $3 million for the Intercity Bus Security Grant Program, $350 million for the Emergency Management Performance Grant Program, $10 million for the Intercity Passenger Rail Program and $1 billion for the Homeland Security Grant Program.
