FirstNet extends Nationwide Public Safety Broadband Network deployment proposal deadline to May 31

The First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet) announced on Monday that it has extended the deadline for proposals for the deployment of the Nationwide Public Safety Broadband Network from May 13 to May 31.

“Our decision to extend the deadline for final proposals was driven by both the volume and nature of the capability statements as well as requests for extensions we’ve received from interested parties,” FirstNet Chief Executive Officer Mike Poth said. “We believe this date affords prospective offerers the opportunity to fine tune their proposals and finalize any teaming arrangements and/or subcontractors, and we remain on track to award by November 1.”

The extension stems from FirstNet’s review of multiple capability statements submitted by potential offerers. FirstNet released its request for proposals on January 13.

FirstNet is an independent authority established by Congress in 2012. It was obligated to take all necessary actions for the building, deployment and operation of the nationwide public safety broadband network for local, state, regional, tribal and federal first responders. The agency is governed by a 15-member board of directors that includes the Secretary of Homeland Security, the attorney general and the director of the Office of Management and Budget, along with 12 members appointed by the Secretary of Commerce.
