Border Patrol agents apprehend six after vehicle chase near Interstate 8 checkpoint

Agents with the U.S. Border Patrol recently apprehended an individual for alleged human smuggling, as well as five illegal migrants, near the Interstate 8 checkpoint.

The incident began on Wednesday when Border Patrol agents observed a group of five individuals traveling northbound by foot from the U.S.-Mexico international border. The agents then observed a man driving a Nissan Xterra SUV who picked up the five individuals and began traveling north.

When the agents attempted to pull over the SUV, the driver refused to stop, which led to a chase. Approximately one mile past the checkpoint, the driver allowed the other five individuals to exit the car as it was still in motion. As the agents closed the distance between them and the driver, the driver turned around, got our of his car, and attempted to face the agents with a knife.

With the use of an electronic control weapon, the agents were able to subdue the man and arrested him without further incident. The agents were also able to apprehend the five illegal migrants.

The six individuals were transported to a nearby Border Patrol station for further processing.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of the nation’s borders at and between the official ports of entry.
