Saltysiak appointed as new ECBC military deputy director

The Edgewood Chemical Biological Center (ECBC) recently appointed Army Col. Thomas Saltysiak as the new military deputy director at ECBC.

Prior to his new appointment, Saltysiak served as a product manager for Battlespace Management Integration (BMI) under the Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD) Project Office at Redstone Arsenal. Before that, he served a six-month deployment to Afghanistan and Kuwait.

While deployed, Saltysiak served as the director of the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Army, Acquisitions, Logistics and Technology. Additionally, he supported tactical operations with Forward and U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM).

Saltysiak will replaces Col. Debra Daniels, who retired in August. Saltysiak will report directly to ECBC Director Dr. Joseph Corriveau.

Before becoming a product manager, Saltysiak was an assistant professor in the Department of Systems Engineering at the United States Military Academy.

“I’d always wanted to try teaching,” Saltysiak said. “When the Army gave me an opportunity, I jumped on it.”

Saltysiak grew up in Georgia, where he enlisted in the National Guard as a fire support specialist in 1989. In 1994, he was commissioned into the Military Intelligence Branch upon graduating from North Georgia College with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry. He subsequently earned a master’s degree in systems engineering and a doctorate in systems engineering and operations research from George Mason University.
