U.S Border Patrol agents at the Falfurrias Checkpoint in Texas rescued several undocumented immigrants last weekend as smugglers attempted to bring them into the United States illegally.
Agents managing inspections at the checkpoint referred several drivers over to a secondary inspection station if they were displaying nervous or unusual behavior. The secondary inspection station involves a more thorough investigation where additional resources are used to check vehicles.
Assisted by service K-9’s and their handlers, Border Patrol agents discovered smugglers attempting to bring in 16 immigrants in eight separate instances.
Smuggling immigrants into the country can be dangerous and even life-threatening in some cases. The cases discovered over the weekend were immigrants locked away in trunks of vehicles or hidden in tool boxes. Four of the cases have been referred for prosecution.
All of the undocumented immigrants discovered declined medical treatment but will be processed accordingly, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection said.
