Safariland selects Honeywell’s Spectra Shield technology for new protective vests geared toward female officers

Safariland, a company specializing in body armor, recently selected Honeywell’s Spectra Shield and Gold Shield ballistic composite materials to produce a thin, lightweight vest specifically designed for female law enforcement officers.

Safariland selected Honeywell’s Spectra Shield 5000 series material for their Armor SX vest family, which is designed to provide optimal comfort while providing protection against a range of soft armor ballistic threat levels for all wearers. Contemporary vest models are typically built for a male or unisex neutral fit.

“Honeywell is committed to developing the most innovative technology and materials to protect more than 1.1 million law enforcement agents across the U.S.,” said Honeywell’s Global Business Director for Armor Tim Swinger. “With the Spectra Shield 5000 series, Safariland can now create a complete line of male and female vests that delivers comfort and military-grade protection to every member of a police force.”

Scott O’Brien, president of The Safariland Group, said the company chose Honeywell’s Spectra Shield 5000 series because it offered the best combination of lighter weight, fit and protection, while still remaining flexible.

Honeywell is a Fortune 100 diversified technology and manufacturing company specializing in aerospace products and services, control technologies for buildings, turbochargers, and performance materials. They also maintain an active Spectra fiber and ballistic materials research program focused on improvement and development of their products.
