Pakistani Centre for Excellence of Nuclear Security enters into partnership with IAEA networks to bolster training

The Pakistani Centre for Excellence for Nuclear Security recently entered into a partnership with the International Network for Nuclear Security Training and Support Centres (NSSC Network) to build national capacity through training courses and strengthening technical and scientific support programs.

The NSSC Network was originally developed by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Its aim is to develop human resources through the implementation of tailor-made training programs, establish a network of experts, and offer technical support for equipment management and scientific support for the prevention and detection of, and response to, nuclear security events.

“The NSSC Network has become an established community of practice for Member States and the IAEA to exchange information, identify best practices, and deepen cooperation on the development of such centres,” said Deputy Director General and Head of the IAEA Dept. of Nuclear Safety Juan Carlos Lentijo.

Muhammad Anwar Habib, chairman of the Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority, said the country can now offer its training facilities to other countries for capacity building in physical protection of nuclear power plants and nuclear security.

In recent years, Pakistan has used the Centre for Excellence to promote best practices in nuclear security through its Pakistan Centre for Excellence for Nuclear Security, the National Institute of Safety and Security and the Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences.
