The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) named Denise E. Zheng as the new director of CSIS’ technology policy program last week.
In her new role, Zheng will work on cyber and international security initiatives and expand into new research areas in emerging technologies including artificial intelligence, self-driving vehicles, and internet privacy and security.
“Denise Zheng is a remarkable talent, intellectually on the cutting edge of some of America’s most important policy questions,” CSIS President and CEO John J. Hamre said. “We are delighted to have her lead our Technology Policy Program at CSIS.”
Zheng joined CSIS in 2014 as deputy director of the strategic technologies program and senior fellow, working on various cyber and emerging technology issues. Prior to joining the center, she served as chief of staff and lead science and engineering technical advisor for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency and its cyber warfare program called Plan X.
“With the promotion of Denise, CSIS has created an outstanding technology policy team,” James A. Lewis, senior vice president for the technology program at CSIS, said. “As the new administration begins its work, CSIS will be ready with Denise’s new leadership role to weigh in on key technology questions.”
