Smiths Detection awarded contract for delivery of baggage screening systems

Smiths Detection was recently awarded a contract to supply Amsterdam Airport Schiphol with new baggage screening equipment, including 24 HI-SCAN 10080 XCT systems.

The contract includes an option for six additional scanners to be deployed at Lelystad, Rotterdam – The Hague, and Eindhoven airports.

“Schiphol is renowned for staying at the forefront of new developments and innovative technologies and we are delighted Smiths Detection has been chosen to upgrade their hold baggage screening,” Tony Tielen, Smiths Detection’s vice president for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, said. “The contract is testament to our commitment to delivering the highest levels of security and operational performance, as well as representing significant progress in the continued expansion of the Smiths Detection footprint.”

The company’s HI-SCAN 10080 XCT system utilizes high-resolution x-ray technology, along with medical-quality computed tomography scanners and advanced detection algorithms, to detect various explosive threats. Smiths Detection said the equipment delivery will take place over the next five years.

Schiphol is Europe’s third-largest airport in both passenger traffic and cargo volume.

Smiths Detection is a subsidiary of the global threat detection and screening technology company Smiths Group, which develops systems for military, air transportation, homeland security, and emergency response markets.
