DHS unveils new comparison tool for Trusted Traveler program

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) recently unveiled a new Trusted Traveler comparison tool, which helps prospective DHS Trusted Traveler applicants find programs that best matches their citizenship and travel preferences.

DHS Trusted Traveler programs allow low-risk travelers to receive expedited clearance through airport security. Current programs include TSA PreCheck, Global Entry, NEXUS, SENTRI, and FAST, each of which are managed by U.S. Customs and and Border Protection (CBP) and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).

“We’re pleased with the launch of the DHS Trusted Traveler Programs interactive tool that ultimately will help travelers feel confident about their decision regarding which program is right for them,” Gary Rasicot, acting deputy administrator for TSA, said.

Membership in Trusted Traveler programs have increased 169 percent since FY2014 to a total of approximately 10.8 million members. The largest program, Global Entry, grew by approximately 141 percent over that same time. Located in 52 U.S. airports and 15 preclearance airports, the Global Entry program is available to U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents, along with citizens of Colombia, Germany, Mexico, the Netherlands, Panama, Singapore, South Korea, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.

“CBP’s Trusted Traveler Programs have successfully improved the international arrivals process—reducing wait times at airports across the country while maintaining our primary mission of security,” Kevin McAleenan, acting commissioner for CBP, said. “Using this new tool, prospective Trusted Travelers will be better able to decide which program best suits their travel needs, so they can apply and, if approved, begin enjoying the benefits of expedited clearance that millions people currently do.”
