Battelle receives $13 million contract to assist CBRNE teams to combat weapons of mass destruction

Battelle recently received a Defense Technical Information Center (DTIC) Homeland Defense and Security Technical Area Task (HD TAT) award with a total value of $13,781,575 to support the National Guard Bureau’s (NGB) Combating Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) Division initiative.

The contract, which includes a 35-month period of performance, specifically calls for Battelle to develop chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosives (CBRNE) elimination exercises, after-action reports, courses to assess training effectiveness, technical and analytical assessments for survivability, and sustainment operations to support the NGB’s mission requirements for combating WMDs.

“This important contract award again demonstrates that Battelle wins competitively bid contracts in our area of expertise—CBRNE defense and R&D operations,” Matthew J. Shaw, VP and general manager for Battelle’s CBRNE Defense business unit, said. “We look forward to continuing to support our government clients as they tackle these strategically important tasks to protect the homeland while keeping our warfighters and first responders safe.”

Both the NGB and the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) have developed CBRNE-ready teams to respond to a variety of types of emergencies, both natural and manmade. Their work will typically include conducting casualty search and extraction, emergency medical services, patient stabilization, and decontamination, all of which requires extensive equipping, training and evaluation to ensure mission success.
