Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory to recognize Reis for contributions to nuclear security

Lawrence Livermore National Security, LLC recently announced that it would recognize Victor Reis for his contributions to nuclear security with the John S. Foster Jr. Medal.

Reis retired from his role as senior adviser in the Office of the Secretary and Undersecretaries at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) in March. At DOE, he led task forces on nuclear energy, nonproliferation, stockpile stewardship and nuclear strategic planning.

After receiving his Ph.D., from Princeton University in 1962, he advanced science and technology in support of U.S. national security in roles at the NASA Ames Laboratory, the Office of Science and Technology Policy in the Executive Office of the President, the Science Applications International Corp., the U.S. Department of Defense and elsewhere.

“It would be difficult to overstate the impact that Vic Reis has had on national security and the nuclear complex,” Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) Director Bill Goldstein said. “Today, the U.S. nuclear deterrent remains safe, secure and reliable, owing in large part to his efforts to implement and champion the Stockpile Stewardship Program (SSP). Reis truly exemplifies the meaning of the Foster Medal.”

Reis will be the third recipient of the John S. Foster medal, which Goldstein will present to Reis at a ceremony this fall.
