Battelle DroneDefender, Dedrone to develop airspace security solutions posed by unauthorized drones

Battelle’s DroneDefender recently announced it has signed a memorandum of understanding with Dedrone to examine ways to develop an end-to-end solution to provide complete airspace security for sensitive infrastructure.

The nonbinding, non-exclusive memorandum will aim to explore potential technology synergies between the two companies.

Currently in use by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) and a variety of international organizations, Battelle’s DroneDefender is the first portable, point-and-shoot system to provide critical security protection with accuracy.

Dedrone’s machine learning software provides security for high-value airspace from threats posed by unauthorized drones and uses data analyzation and passive sensors to identify the characteristics of each drone. It also can provide warnings of unauthorized drone presence and map its flight path.

According to Battelle, the company remains in active discussions with both potential companies and customers for counter-unmanned aircraft system (C-UAS) markets.

“The Department of Defense must prepare for a vast spectrum of airspace threats, including drones and other UAS,” Joerg Lamprecht, co-founder and CEO of Dedrone, said. “With their best in class defeat technology, Battelle is an ideal partner to our detection program, and together we look forward to developing proactive solutions that protect military and government airspace.”
