Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport offering automated TSA screening lanes

The Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) is now one of 10 airports in the country to offer automated security screening lanes in an effort to cut down on passenger processing time.

The creation of four automated screening lanes in terminals A and D is a joint effort on behalf of the airport and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). With their implementation, the organizations bring together automated conveyor belts and X-ray machines with automated diversion options for any carry-on bags thought to contain a prohibited item. Larger bins are being provided at these screen lanes, each with their own unique radio frequency identification (RFID) tag. Cameras will take photos of each bin’s contents and link them to side-by-side images of their X-rayed contents.

“As we see customer demand increasing, it’s critical that we apply new technologies and innovative solutions to improve our security process,” Ken Buchanan, executive vice president of Revenue Management at DFW airport, said.

DFW has also announced a commitment to a total of 10 automated screening lanes by the end of the year.
