TSA implementing new enhanced screening procedures at the Orlando International Airport

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) recently began implementing enhanced screening procedures for carry-on items at the Orlando International Airport (MCO).

TSA personnel will now require travelers passing through standard screening lanes to remove electronics larger than a cell phone from their carry-on luggage and place them in screening bins with no additional items on top or below.

According to TSA, the new step will help TSA officers obtain a clearer image during x-ray scanning. Passengers who fail to remove their specified electronic devices will be subject to a bag check.

“The simple step of separating personal electronic items for screening allows TSA officers to more closely focus on resolving alarms and stopping terror threats,” TSA Federal Security Director Jerry Henderson said.

In order to expedite the screening process, TSA said it will have officers stationed in front of checkpoint X-ray machines to guide passengers through the screening process and recommend how to best arrange their carry-on items for screening.

TSA said that there are no changes to what items travelers can bring in their carry-on luggage, including the 3-1-1 liquids rule.

“TSA has enhanced its security procedures to stay ahead of evolving threats,” Henderson said. “TSA is committed to raising the baseline for aviation security and we appreciate the cooperation of the traveling public in this endeavor.”

TSA noted that the new security measures do not apply to passengers enrolled in TSA’s PreCheck program.
