Department of Homeland Security extends job offers to hundreds of veterans

Following a job fair called “Continue Your Service to America” held in August, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced on Thursday that job offers had been extended to 207 veterans.

Approximately 2,500 veterans attended the two-day job fair. Onsite job interviews were given to 620 candidates, and 381 candidates advanced to the next stage of the hiring process to become a Customs and Border Protection officer for Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

In addition to the 207 job offers extended to veterans, DHS said certificates of eligibility and resumes submitted by veterans in August would continue to be considered for future job openings.

DHS kicked-off the “Continue Your Service to America” event with a webinar series called “DHS is Hiring Veterans.” Webinars outlined the DHs mission, explained different types of jobs available, outlined the hiring process and provided information about how to build a federal resume. More than 5,000 veterans took part in the webinar series.

“Veterans currently make up 27.6 percent of the Department’s workforce,” a department release stated. “DHS continues to be a leader among federal agencies in employing veterans and has the highest percentage of veteran employees among large federal agencies for the second year in a row.”

DHS continues to recruit candidates for law enforcement and mission support positions.
