Acting DHS secretary tours Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers

During a visit to Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) headquarters in Glynco, Georgia, on Tuesday, Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Elaine Duke received an operation briefing, observed training programs, and toured a port of entry training simulator.

FLETC trains most of the country’s federal law enforcers and agents, and its training programs for state, local, tribal, and international police graduates more than 70,000 students each year. Additionally, FLETC provides training for more than 90 federal organizations.

“The trainings offered at FLETC prepare America’s law enforcement officers for the diverse challenges they will face in the field,” Duke said. “I appreciated the opportunity to participate in training exercises and meet with current officers, as well as trainees. Their work is critical to protecting our homeland.”

FLETC Director Thomas Walters and FLETC Deputy Director William Fallon accompanied Duke on her tour of the facility.

“It was our honor to host Acting Secretary Duke at FLETC,” Walters said. “We are grateful for her outstanding leadership of our department, commitment to our law enforcement training mission and eagerness to engage with the FLETC community.”

Duke was also briefed on damage to the facility caused by Hurricane Matthew and Hurricane Irma during her visit.
