Crowley Logistics gets underway on $2.3 billion Defense Department Contract

Crowley Logistics has completed the first military delivery under a $2.3 billion Department of Defense (DoD) contract as of this week.

The company reported successful delivery by truck to the U.S. Tobyhanna Army Depot in Pennsylvania, and future deliveries will include a mix of vendor facilities, DoD distribution centers, and military installations. Crowley will be supplying them all as well as other DoD customers and agencies outside the department are all welcome to join in. The contract is set to last two years, followed by five option years, moving cargo from military suppliers to 41 major deports throughout the United States, by land and by sky.

“This initial DFTS move is a culmination of years of careful and strategic preparation combined with a lot of diligent work on the part of our logistics team and technology partner 3Gtms,” Tom Crowley, company chairman and CEO, said. “We are pleased to get underway – leveraging our dependable commercial expertise and capabilities for U.S. Transportation Command (TRANSCOM) and other government customers.”

Crowley is working with 3Gtms on the project, utilizing its transportation management system to enhance its own inland transportation services. They have also partnered with Tranztec Solutions for access to its VIA Platform and Via Mobile app, allowing for real-time track and trace and proof of delivery capture services for its carriers and customers.

“We have put together a team of experts, including retired military, transportation and technology leaders, who understand the unique requirements of DFTS to provide a differentiated customer experience, state-of-the-art technology solution and create value for DoD,” Bob Weist, vice president of North America transportation for Crowley, said.
