Global Entry endeavor reaches milestone

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials said its flagship Trusted Traveler Program, Global Entry, has eclipsed the five million member milestone.

CBP personnel said Global Entry provides expedited clearance for pre-approved, low-risk travelers upon arrival in the United States.

As of March 2018, the Global Entry Network consisted of 5,149,952 Trusted Travelers. Since FY2015, enrollment in Global Entry has grown more than 100 percent, from 2.4 million to 5.1 million members.

Officials said more than 6.8 million Trusted Travelers with Global Entry benefits bypass traditional CBP inspection lines and use an automated kiosk to complete their admission to the United States.

“Global Entry remains one of CBP’s most successful programs, improving both traveler facilitation and security,” Kevin McAleenan, CBP commissioner, said. “This milestone is the result of substantial growth of the Global Entry program in recent years with the expansion of eligibility to foreign nationals from more than a dozen participating countries and kiosks available to members at 70 airports worldwide.”

While the goal of Global Entry is to speed travelers through the process, CBP officials noted, members may be selected for further examination when entering the United States.

Any violation of the program’s terms and conditions will result in appropriate enforcement action and may result in the revocation of the traveler’s membership privileges.
