INTERPOL and Frontex held a meeting recently to support efforts to expand their respective Dial-Doc and Quick Check Cards programs, which are designed to improve travel document checks at border points and fight travel document fraud.
The meeting was the first meeting of the working group and was held under the framework of increased collaboration between the two organizations. The working group seeks to increase international cooperation between border control and law enforcement authorities in addressing the challenges posed by illicit travel documents.
The meeting included 16 operational and technical experts from seven countries: Albania, Canada, France, Hungary, Italy, Portugal, and Romania as well as the EU Council.
INTERPOL’s databases are now queried almost 200 times every second, the organization said. To accommodate this demand, it is seeking to expand its I-24/7 secure police communications system to enhance the timely availability of police information during border controls.
