Laredo Port of Entry holds three-day active shooter training session

An active shooter response training simulation recently organized by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Office of Field Operations (OFO) from the Laredo Port of Entry enabled supervisors to focus on bolstering active shooter preparedness and prevention efforts.

Hosted by the Use of Force Training Department (UFTD) and the Lardo Field Office Special Response team, the active shooter response training enabled supervisors to practice response techniques in a variety of scenarios that required rapid information processing and use of force decision making.

“The training gave participants an opportunity to hone their skills in a venue that approaches real-world scenarios, improves preparedness, creates efficiency and expertise in response protocols,” a CBP release stated. “Other benefits from this training include increased safety mitigation capabilities to eliminate or reduce the loss of life and property.”

The three-day training event covered historical and current active shooter situations, response to hostage situations and barricaded active shooters, first responder best practices, awareness of improvised explosive devices, rescue team tactics, approach and breach of buildings, engaging suspects, and post-engagement methods.
