Border Patrol operations, TRICAMEX fly over Rio Grande Valley

Air and Marine Operations agents recently flew over the Rio Grande Sector as part of the Border Patrol Missing Migrant Program. The agents, from the McAllen Air Brach, conducted a familiarization flight for Central America’s Northern Triangle and Mexico (TRICAMEX).

TRICAMEX, comprised of the consular offices from Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador and Mexico, promotes an exchange of experiences, communication, and lessons learned from protection and consular services.

Agents were familiarized with the sector’s hazardous terrain and dangers, so they know what immigrants face when attempting to enter the United States illegally.

“Reducing immigrant deaths to zero is our ultimate goal,” Chief Patrol Agent Manuel Padilla, Jr. said. “We will continue to work with our international partners to save lives.”

The flight gave agents an understanding of where emphasis needs to be placed to reduce illegal entries and ultimately eradicate immigrant deaths. It also enhanced collaboration to solidify prevention campaigns.

Multiple campaigns focus on the Rio Grande Valley Sector’s dangers and rescues. These campaigns include “Operation Big Rig” and “No Se Arriesgue,” aimed at combating smuggling of people across the border.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is an agency within the Department of Homeland Security. Its mission is to keep terrorists and weapons out of the country while enforcing U.S. laws.
