NTI leadership, staff play key role at nuclear materials management conference

Nuclear Threat Initiative (NTI) officials will be participating in several discussion panels presented at the Institute of Nuclear Materials Management’s (INMM) 59th annual meeting this week in Baltimore, Md.

NTI Vice President Corey Hinderstein provided opening remarks at the first plenary session on Monday while also being slated to facilitate several discussions and chair the closing plenary interactive session.

NTI Program Assistant Alex Bednarek is scheduled to present on NTI’s work with the State of California to secure radiological materials during a technical session focused on Radioactive Materials Protection.

NTI Vice President Laura Holgate will chair two panels, a nonproliferation and arms control panel discussion entitled, “Securing the Future of Advanced Nuclear Reactors – Security and Safeguards by Design,” and an international safeguards panel discussion, “Building on State Responsibilities.”

NTI President Joan Rohlfing will participate in a panel on the future of the NPT, along with Laura Rockwood of the Vienna Center for Nonproliferation and Disarmament, Brad Roberts of Los Alamos National Laboratory and Will Tobey of the Belfer Center.

Officials said Hinderstein and NTI Senior Director Richard Johnson attended special workshops where they earned a professional certificate on Policy and Technical Fundamentals of International Nuclear Safeguards. NTI has a history of participation in the INMM meetings.

NTI works to prevent catastrophic attacks with weapons of mass destruction and disruption – whether nuclear, biological, radiological, chemical or cyber.
