Global security expert Chris Deeney joins Pacific Northwest National Laboratory

The strategy and national security development underway at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) will now be lead by Chris Deeney, who joined the organization as its chief science and technology officer for national security matters.

A noted researcher and innovator in scientific engineering, Deeney is a respected authority in engineering capabilities to address some of the nation’s most serious security threats. He previously served as vice president and chief technology officer at National Security Technologies, assistant deputy administrator for stockpile stewardship for the National Nuclear Security Administration, and managed experiments for Sandia National Laboratories. He is also a fellow of the American Physical Society and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineering.

“Deeney’s unique skills and experience make him the right person to lead PNNL’s national security strategy,” Tony Peurrung, PNNL’s associate laboratory director for national security, said.

In his new role, Deeney will fuel the lab’s strategy development, focusing on its national security research portfolio and related programs.
