Border Patrol names new deputy chief

U.S. Border Patrol recently named Scott Luck as the agency’s new deputy chief.

Luck has been chief of the Law Enforcement Operations Directorate at the Border Patrol Headquarters in Washington, D.C., since 2014 and has served as the acting deputy chief since April 2017.

“I am deeply honored for the privilege to serve as deputy chief of the U.S. Border Patrol, and I look forward to supporting the hard-working men and women who protect our country,” Luck said.

Luck’s career with the Border Patrol began in 1986 with his first assignment in the Tucson Sector.

In 2000, he was promoted to assistant patrol agent at the Santa Teresa Station in the El Paso Sector, in 2003 he was promoted to assistant chief patrol agent at the Border Patrol Academy, and in 2008 he was promoted to chief patrol agent.

While at the academy, Luck developed and implemented the second Pre-employment Fitness Test for all prospective agents and was instrumental in training 6,000 new agents in a two-year period.

Luck became chief patrol agent of the El Paso Border Patrol Sector after joining the Senior Executive Service in 2011.

Luck is a graduate of the National Defense University Capstone and the FBI’s National Executive Institute.
