CBP seizes $4.2 mln in drugs at Pharr International Bridge

U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Office of Field Operations (CBP OFO) seized $4.2 million worth of heroin and methamphetamine last week at the Pharr International Bridge, between Texas and Mexico. The narcotics were hidden inside a commercial trailer carrying fresh produce.

A red Kenworth tractor/trailer hauling fresh limes arrived at the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge cargo facility. The vehicle was scanned with a nonintrusive imaging system inspection before being sent to a secondary inspection dock for further examination.

CBP OFO officers discovered six packages of alleged heroin and 86 packages of alleged methamphetamine concealed within the trailer.

“This interception of dangerous drugs truly exemplifies the teamwork of our officers working at our cargo facility,” Andres Guerra, port director of the Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry, said. “Being able to detect anomalies within your work environment is how our officers are able to dig further and follow their inquisitive instinct, which usually produces positive results.”

CBP OFO seized $625,000 in heroin, weighing 27.56 pounds, and $3.6 million in methamphetamine, weighing 258 pounds. The tractor/trailer also was seized.

Homeland Security Investigations special agents are investigating.

In August, more than $1 million worth of heroin was seized from a Toyota Corolla at the same port of entry.
