Cybersecurity Roadmap prioritizes TSA security measures

The Transportation Security Administration released Tuesday its first Cybersecurity Roadmap, a guide that prioritizes the administration’s cybersecurity efforts.

The guide highlights efforts both within the TSA and the transportation systems sector. It is part of the 2018-2026 TSA Strategy which details ways to safeguard the transportation system and improve security.

The guide illustrates four major priorities: identify cybersecurity risks, reduce vulnerabilities to the transportation systems sector and critical infrastructure, mitigate consequences if and when they occur, and strengthen security and ensure the resilience of the system.

“TSA is responsible for securing the nation’s transportation systems from all threats – both physical and cyber,” TSA Administrator David P. Pekoske said. “Because the consequences of both physical and cyberattacks can be equally damaging, we must be prepared to respond to cyber threats with the same level of success as we do when faced with physical threats.”

The administration will collaborate with industry partners, leverage innovative concepts and make smart investments to achieve Cybersecurity Roadmap goals, Pekoske said.

The guide is similar to the Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity Strategy published earlier in the year which lists the risks to critical cyber and physical transportation infrastructure and provides solutions for protecting systems from threats.
