Sacramento Regional Transit District earns TSA award

Sid Hanna, Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Federal Security director in Sacramento, recently presented Henry Li, general manager and CEO of the Sacramento Regional Transit District (SacRT), with the Gold Standard Award.

The annual award honors transit agencies that have high scores in 17 categories. The categories include public outreach efforts, the background check processes, drills and exercise programs, and security training.

“SacRT’s designation as a Gold Standard Award winner puts the agency in the top tier of transit agencies, recognizing its hard work and unwavering commitment to security,” Hanna said. “TSA looks forward to a continued partnership with SacRT and applauds its continued focus on the security of its customers.”

The TSA oversees approximately 6,800 public transit agencies nationwide. This year, it evaluated 92 transit agencies through its Baseline for Security Enhancement program.

SacRT serves 400-square-miles in Sacramento County including the communities of Citrus Heights, Elk Grove, Folsom and Rancho Cordova. The approximately 70 bus routes include

ADA paratransit services, 43 miles of light rail, dial-a-ride and microtransit, and fixed-routes.

This is the first year SacRT earned the award.

Other Gold Standard winners include the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority in Washington, D.C., the Denver Regional Transportation District and MetroLink St. Louis in St. Louis, Mo.
