Bill package addresses national security

House Republican recently introduced fours bills as part of the Republican’s American Security Agenda.

The agenda is aimed at combating new and evolving threats by providing the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) with resources, reforming structure and management, and granting the agency the authority ahead of emerging threats.

The bills would formally authorize the Biometric Identification Transnational Migration Alert program, establish interagency task forces led by DHS to work with other agencies, create a task force to analyze emerging and potential threats to transportation security, and reform the DHS acquisition process.

The bills were introduced by Reps. Mike McCaul (R-TX), Clay Higgins (R-LA), Rep. John Joyce (R-PA) and Dan Crenshaw (R-TX).

“Terror threats are constantly evolving, and our adversaries are becoming more agile and illusive,” McCaul, who is chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee said. “It is critical that DHS and its partners have every tool necessary to protect American citizens and I am glad to introduce this legislation with Senator (Martha) McSally (R-AZ), a former colleague of mine on the House Homeland Security Committee. I look forward to reviewing this bipartisan legislation in committee and getting it to the floor, so we can improve our intelligence sharing capabilities and better protect our homeland.”
