Laredo CBP effort nets sizeable narcotics seizure

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials said a pair of recent Laredo enforcement operations yielded narcotics seizures worth a combined estimated street value exceeding $4.1 million.

“I congratulate our officers for their dedication which has prevented these dangerous narcotics from entering our country,” Eugene Crawford, port director – Laredo Port of Entry, said. “These interceptions are a true example of the great men and women we have protecting our borders.”

CBP officers seized 194 pounds of methamphetamine at Gateway to the Americas Bridge, where a canine and non-intrusive imaging inspection by CBP officers discovered a total of 93 packages of alleged crystal methamphetamine. Another seizure at the same site discovered a total of 12 packages containing 29 pounds of alleged cocaine within a vehicle.

CBP officers seized the narcotics and vehicles. The drivers were arrested, and the cases were forwarded to Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation.

CBP serves as the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control, and protection of the nation’s borders at and between official ports of entry. The agency is responsible for securing the borders while enforcing hundreds of laws and facilitating lawful trade and travel.
