Delaware seeking volunteers to participate in public health exercise

Delaware’s Division of Public Health (DPH) is seeking volunteers to participate in an emergency preparedness exercise on Sept. 28.

The exercise will be held at two Delaware Technical Community College campuses and will be used to evaluate the state’s ability to set up locations to distribute medications in emergency situations.

“This exercise is an excellent opportunity for our staff to test our response capability and address any areas that may need improvement,” DPH Director Karyl Rattay said. “It is imperative that in the event of a real-life incident, we are as prepared as possible to respond to the situation while keeping all Delaware residents safe and healthy. We highly encourage members of the public to volunteer for this event and directly support DPH in its efforts to prepare for potential public health threats.”

Volunteers are needed at the Delaware Tech Dover and Newark campuses. They will fill out forms and walk through the line dispensing simulated medication five to seven times.

Volunteers must register online and select a location and a one-hour time slot. Time slots are available between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., and lunch will be provided.

Groups are welcome to volunteer. No identification card is required to participate.
