David Glawe addresses global counter-terrorism session

Under Secretary for Intelligence and Analysis (I&A) and Chief Intelligence Officer David J. Glawe recently addressed the International Institute for Counter-Terrorism’s (ICT’s) 2019 World Summit on Counter-Terrorism in Israel.

Organizers said the gathering serves as one of the world’s most influential forums for experts in the fields of intelligence, defense, policing and security studies, drawing more than 1,400 leaders from over 65 nations. The conference also commemorated international cooperation following the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

“Terrorism is terrorism – whether domestic or international – and violent threats to our freedom and the basic tenants to our free society must be eliminated,” Glawe said. “The necessity to share information between international partners is critical to preventing future terrorist attacks. We must continue to work to raise our intelligence capacities to identify and mitigate terrorist threats.”

I&A has realigned its intelligence resources and enhanced a series of initiatives focusing on the highest priority domestic threats while integrating intelligence into operational functions. I&A has also significantly increased its ability to identify and report on threats from open-source information, including a 65 percent increase in reporting from FY2017 to FY2019.

Through global platforms, I&A continues to strengthen the capacity of intelligence partners to confront shared challenges and combat an ever-evolving, determined, and persistent threat.
