Lawmakers praise FBI for thwarting synagogue bombing

A bipartisan group of lawmakers recently extended praise to the FBI for stopping an attempted synagogue bombing in Colorado.

Reps. Marc Veasey (D-TX), Nita Lowey (D-NY), Chris Smith (R-NJ), Eliot L. Engel (D-NY), Kay Granger (R-TX), Ted Deutch (D-FL), Randy Weber (R-TX), and Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA) espoused the agency’s foiling of a white supremacist’s alleged plans to bomb the Temple Emanuel synagogue in Pueblo, Colo., citing the FBI’s tireless efforts to prevent the tragedy.

“This attempted attack on the Jewish community in Colorado is deeply disturbing—and it’s far from an isolated incident,” the lawmakers said via a joint statement. “Antisemitism and antisemitic violence is on the rise across the world. According to the Anti-Defamation League, this is the 13th time someone in the U.S. has been arrested for allegedly plotting attacks or making threats against the Jewish community since the tragic attack on Pittsburgh’s Tree of Life synagogue a little more than a year ago.”

Officials denounced threatening activity of any sort.

“We must work to meet this growing threat and keep our communities safe,” the legislators concluded. “It is incumbent on all of us to reject all forms of terror and hate and to fight for a future free of this kind of violence.”
