FirstNet board holds year-end meeting, highlights progress and future priorities

The First Responder Network Authority Board recently held its year-end meeting and highlighted FirstNet’s progress and its priorities for the future.

FirstNet is a nationwide public safety broadband network with more than 1 million connections by more than 10,000 public safety agencies.

“This was another year of significant progress for public safety and the roll-out of their network. Because of the growing awareness and adoption of FirstNet, the marketplace is serving and innovating for public safety,” Edward Horowitz, FirstNet Authority Board chairman, said. “The FirstNet Authority will continue our vigorous oversight of the network and move forward on the Roadmap priorities to deliver the differentiated broadband experience for public safety.”

The board also reviewed progress toward the strategic vision set at 2018’s year-end meeting, highlighting key milestones, and approved updates to the committee charters and bylaws.

The board also honored Neil A. Miller, Sheriff of Buffalo County, NE, 2019 Chief Harlin R. McEwen Public Safety Broadband Communications Award. The award, first presented in 2017, honors a public safety representative who has contributed to the advancement of public safety broadband communications.

Miller received the award for his leadership and contributions toward the advancement of public safety broadband communications across Nebraska.
