House advances transportation security bill

The U.S. House of Representatives advanced Monday the Emerging Transportation Security Threats Act of 2019 (H.R. 3318).

The bill, introduced by U.S. Rep. John Joyce (R-PA), creates a task force to analyze emerging threats to transportation security. It also requires the Transportation Security Administration to develop threat mitigation plans for identified threats in coordination with stakeholders.

“In the face of evolving security challenges, it is imperative for federal agencies to work together to prevent and combat threats to our nation. By establishing a task force with the Transportation Security Administration and other security leaders, the Emerging Transportation Security Threats Act of 2019 will facilitate new strategies to mitigate emerging threats to the U.S. transportation system,” Joyce said.

The bill now moves to the U.S. Senate for further action.

“This commonsense solution will protect Americans in PA-13 and across the country while making the federal government more efficient. As H.R. 3318 heads to the Senate for further consideration, I am grateful to my colleagues for their overwhelming support of this legislation,” Joyce said.

Joyce, who serves on the of the House Committee on Homeland Security and the House Small Business Committee, represents the 13th District of Pennsylvania, which includes 10 counties in southcentral Pennsylvania.
