TSA notes PreCheck milestone of 10 million members

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) recently indicated its PreCheck program has reached a milestone of 10 million members, adding the landmark figure is essential to aviation security.

TSA PreCheck is an expedited screening program enabling low-risk travelers to undergo screening experiences at more than 200 airports. TSA PreCheck travelers do not need to remove shoes, laptops, 3-1-1 liquids, belts, or light jackets.

In January, 94 percent of passengers in TSA PreCheck lanes waited less than five minutes. TSA PreCheck is accessible only on air carriers and at airports partnering with TSA.

“The more individuals who are enrolled in TSA PreCheck, the more we can focus resources on individuals who more likely pose a risk to aviation security,” TSA Administrator David Pekoske said. “It’s better security and a better experience for travelers.”

TSA PreCheck opened its first enrollment center in December 2013. The sites total more than 400 centers nationwide, and from March 2019 to February 2020, there was an 18 percent increase in new membership compared to the same period the year prior.

“TSA remains committed to its core mission to secure the homeland while ensuring passengers have as smooth a travel experience as possible,” Pekoske said.
