Laredo CBP intercept hard narcotics worth over $11M

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Office of Field Operations (OFO) personnel in Laredo, Texas, recently executed actions resulting in the interception of narcotics valued at more than $11.4 million.

“These drugs will not reach Main Street USA due to the efforts of the officers in our cargo facilities,” Port Director Gregory Alvarez, Laredo Port of Entry, said regarding the enforcement action at the World Trade Bridge. “Significant enforcement actions like this one illustrate CBP’s ongoing offensive against criminal networks and their organizations.”

Authorities said on July 3 officers assigned to the cargo facility encountered a vehicle arriving from Mexico, indicating the shipment was referred for a canine and non-intrusive imaging system inspection, resulting in the discovery of 570.79 pounds of alleged methamphetamine within the consignment.

CBP personnel seized the narcotics, and the case was turned over Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation.
