Laredo CBP officers seize $2.5M worth of narcotics at Juarez-Lincoln Bridge

Laredo Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Office of Field Operations (OFO) officers noted the seizure of methamphetamine totaling over $2.5 million in street value at the Juarez-Lincoln Bridge.

“While drug trafficking organizations employ a variety of methods to smuggle their illicit product, CBP officers continue to utilize high-tech tools coupled with inspection experience to interdict these narcotics and keep our communities safe,” Acting Port Director Eugene Crawford, Laredo Port of Entry, said via the lone enforcement action netting the seizure.

On Dec. 28, a CBP officer assigned to the Juarez-Lincoln Bridge referred a 2013 Kia Optima for a secondary inspection. The vehicle was driven by a 19-year-old male traveling from Mexico.

Upon examining the vehicle via a non-intrusive imaging system examination, the effort resulted in the discovery of 100 packages totaling 128.83 pounds of methamphetamine hidden within the vehicle.

Officers seized the narcotics and vehicle. The driver was arrested. The case was turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation.

CBP is designated the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control, and protection of the nation’s borders at and between official ports of entry.
