Bill seeks to limit domestic terrorists from holding security clearances

U.S. Reps. Liz Cheney (R-WY) and Jason Crow (D-CO) introduced legislation this week limiting domestic terrorists from holding security clearances in the wake of the FBI announcing it has nearly tripled its domestic terrorism caseload.

The No Clearance For Domestic Terrorists Act (H.R. 5513) directs the Security Executive Agent to ensure adjudicative guidelines involving whether an individual has been involved in, supported, trained to commit, or advocated domestic or international terrorism.

“We must make sure we are doing everything possible to protect our nation and keep the American people safe,” Chesney said. “I’m proud to join Rep. Crow in leading this legislation that takes steps to prevent domestic terrorists from receiving security clearances and accessing sensitive information. Increasingly, we know that threats to our way of life and our system of government come not only from abroad but can metastasize at home as well.”

Cheyney said the nation must confront domestic and international enemies threatening the constitutional republic’s foundation.

Additional bill provisions, per authorities, include ensuring investigations, polygraphs, and adjudications involve screening an individual for possible involvement with domestic terrorism.

The bill also stipulates that the Questionnaire for Public Trust Positions and the Questionnaire for National Security Positions produce information regarding whether the individual submitting the form has been involved in domestic terrorism.
