American Security Task Force conducts discussion with law enforcement leaders

In the wake of the group’s creation earlier this year, members of the American Security Task Force recently conducted a roundtable discussion with law enforcement leaders regarding domestic policing.

Task force member participants included U.S. Reps. John Rutherford (R-FL), Michael Guest (R-MS), Nicole Malliotakis (R-NY), Troy Nehls (R-TX), Brian Babin (R-TX), and Warren Davidson (R-OH). House Republican Leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) previously announced the body’s formation.

“Every law enforcement agency in America faces different needs, challenges, and operations,” Rutherford, law enforcement lead of the American Security Task Force, said. “Federal support for law enforcement through incentives, not mandates, increases accreditation, recruitment, and retention, while maintaining the flexibility agencies need to best protect and serve their communities. We must also continue to invest in re-entry services that provide a continuum of care between jails and communities, reducing both recidivism and crime.”

Rising crime, progressive prosecutors, bail reform, recruitment, and retention, as well as mental health, were among the topics discussed during the session.

The task force maintains Americans deserve safety and security and a congressional majority delivering solutions.

The panel noted murders increased by 30 percent nationally in 2020 and 35 percent in cities with more than 250,000 people;
officers need district attorneys to follow through and prosecute the criminals they arrest; bail reform laws are having a disastrous impact on communities; the anti-police environment is taking a toll on officers; and southern border issues are fueling crime in numerous states, cities, and counties.
