Congressional Border Security Technology Caucus formed to modernize border

Four congressmen founded a new bipartisan Border Security Technology Caucus this week to keep Congress informed of available technologies to improve U.S. border security.

It was created by U.S. Reps. Tony Gonzales (R-TX), Chuck Fleischmann (R-TN), Tim Ryan (D-OH), and Vicente Gonzalez (D-TX).

“Border security is a bipartisan priority that requires bipartisan cooperation,” the co-founders said. “The Border Security Technology Caucus will improve the way Congress develops border policies by bringing together a bipartisan coalition of lawmakers to ensure the United States is on the cutting-edge of technology that will protect the American people, our border agents, and our national security.”

The lawmakers added that they will focus on legislation to improve the enforcement of immigration laws and modernize border security. According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), more than 2 million migrants attempted to cross the border in 2021 alone. Over the same year, its agents seized more than 913,000 lb. of illegal drugs.
