Over 30 Republican legislators recently introduced a resolution that seeks to spur the Biden administration and Congress to act in developing a security plan to combat a rise in crime and increase security at the southern border.
U.S. Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA) served as the resolution’s sponsor amid National Police Week.
“If there was ever a time that the American people want to know that the president and Congress are working together to defeat the scourge of crime, the time is now,” Cassidy said. “This resolution is to send the message that combating crime is what we are focused on.”
Per the resolution, violent crimes are occurring daily in major cities nationwide, in part due to progressive prosecutors declining to charge violent offenders and certain bail reform policies allowing dangerous criminals back into society.
The resolution also maintains that released offenders commit more violent crimes in the United States and directly correlate to an increase in illegal immigration at the southern border and an uptick in illegal drug sales, distribution, and consumption.
The resolution advocates reinforcing criminal justice policies while coordinating with federal, state, and local agencies and authorities to implement the crime combating strategy and encouraging all law enforcement agencies to strengthen approaches to fighting what the lawmakers noted is the nation’s violent crime epidemic.
