BAE Systems secures $7.8M AFRL contract for machine learning software

BAE Systems recently secured a $7.8 million Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) contract to develop Multi-Sensor Exploitation for Tactical Autonomy (META) program machine learning software.

“With the addition of environmentally adaptive processing, this solution bridges a critical gap in machine learning,” BAE Systems’ FAST Labs Program Manager Mark Kolba said. “Providing local situational awareness and human-like context of environmental conditions will greatly reduce false alarms.”

Authorities indicated the technology would enable advanced situational awareness and automatic target recognition (ATR), with the scope of work calling for BAE Systems’ FAST Labs research and development organization to provide Environmentally Adaptive Geospatial Learning and Exploitation.

The system integrates multiple elements of BAE Systems autonomy portfolio, per officials, providing detection, tracking, identification, and understanding for critical mobile targets in contested environments that include targets under camouflage, concealment, and deception.

BAE Systems’ FAST Labs team invents, innovates, adapts, and produces advanced science, electronics, and engineering breakthroughs to provide technologies. The initiative is known for its ability to clarify processes, focus resources, and overcome impediments to quickly present customer solutions.
