FEMA launches update to mobile app, touts increase personalization options

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) recently unveiled an updated version of its mobile app, which now provides users with increased personalization options while aiding disaster safety efforts.

“FEMA is committed to providing families with the tools and information they need to keep themselves and their loved ones safe from disasters,” FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell said. “By advancing our mobile app technology, we are better helping communities plan, protect and recover from disasters through clear, effective, and relatable communication.”

FEMA officials said downloading the app is critical ahead of the peak hurricane and wildfire seasons. The app is available for download on iOS or Android.

New app features include how it enables users to customize what they see in the app to receive information most relevant to their user preferences and location, as well as a Recover section to help disaster survivors understand federal disaster declarations in their area and gain answers to common questions about the assistance application process.

“At FEMA, we’re constantly striving to make our information as approachable as possible,” FEMA Digital Engagement & Analytics Branch Chief Gloria Huang said. “This latest update is a big step forward, but not the end of our progress. We’ll continue taking user feedback and technological advances to improve app functionality. This information empowers people to make informed decisions about their preparedness and response to disasters.”
