Smiths Detection, Kromek enter agreement for development of wearable radiation detection equipment

Threat detection and security firm Smiths Detection announced that it has entered an agreement with Kromek to deliver wearable radiation detection equipment to North and South America.

“Smiths Detection is committed to deliver the best security screening solutions to our customers,” Smiths Detection President Inder Reddy said. “The agreement with Kromek to distribute wearable radiation detectors allows Smiths Detection to supply a full range of field-based CBRNe solutions to customers, helping to protect front line defenders and the communities they serve.”

Kromek specializes in developing radiation detection and bio-detection technology solutions for advanced imaging and CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear) detection segments.

The agreement seeks to expand user access to Kromek’s technology by leveraging Smiths Detection’s regional presence and reputation. Smiths Detection is slated to distribute the Kromek D3 and D5 series of wearable, highly sensitive radiation detectors alerting when radiation is detected while protecting users from exposure to illegal or unsecure radioactive material.

“We’re pleased to work with Smiths Detection to provide the market with nuclear radiation detection solutions that give security authorities an early warning system for potential threats,” Kromek CEO Arnab Basu said. “Being able to collaborate with Smiths Detection demonstrates that Kromek detectors are best-in-class, and we are excited to work with them to bring these solutions to customers across North and South America.”
