Curtiss-Wright Corporation awarded $120M in contracts for U.S. Navy’s Columbia-class submarine program

The U.S. Navy awarded contracts valued at approximately $120 million to the Curtiss-Wright Corporation last week, tapping the company to provide generators for its next-generation Columbia-class submarine.

The Columbia is meant to replace the Ohio-class ballistic missile submarines, with a lead ship scheduled for delivery sometime in 2027. Curtiss-Wright, a global aerospace and defense-focused engineering business, will undertake this work at its Cheswick, Pa., facility.

“We are very proud to have been chosen by Northrop Grumman to provide generators for this significant U.S. nuclear naval defense platform,” Lynn Bamford, president and CEO of Curtiss-Wright Corporation, said. “The Columbia-class ballistic missile submarine (SSBN) program is the U.S. Navy’s top priority to maintain the nation’s force structure, and Curtiss-Wright’s selection for this award reflects our long-standing commitment to and our ongoing support of the U.S. Navy’s most critical platforms.”

The company has supplied parts to every submarine and aircraft carrier used by the U.S. Navy to date. In addition to its next-class submarine work for the Columbia, it will also supply an energy storage rotor for the Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch system on the upcoming generation of aircraft carriers.
